Medical Record Science courses launched at GH

CHENNAI: To train more qualified medical record technicians, two courses were launched at the Government General Hospital here on Wednesday.

Director of Medical Education (in-charge) T.P. Kalaniti launched Bachelor in Medical Records Science (BMRSc.) and Medical Record Technician Course.

While BMRSc. will be offered at the government hospital, along with the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, the other will be offered at the Institute of Child Health. A total of 35 candidates will take the courses this year.

60 vacancies

Medical Superintendent V. Palani said there were nearly 60 vacancies in medical records departments of various government medical colleges and hospitals across the State.

In Chennai, nearly one-third of the posts in medical records departments of the Government General Hospital, the Kilpauk Medical College and Hospital and the Government Stanley Hospital remain vacant for want of qualified technicians, he said.

ICH director Saradha Suresh participated.
