Only BBMP knows of cemetery for animals in city

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Would you believe that there is an exclusive cemetery for animals in Bangalore and that there is even a van to transport dead animals to the cemetery?

This is what the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) submitted to the Karnataka High Court on Thursday.

In its affidavit before the court, the BBMP said it had a two-acre plot at Mattigere near Yelahanka, off Bellary Road, which has been exclusively earmarked to bury dead animals.

The BBMP made these submissions when a public interest litigation (PIL) petition was being heard by a Division Bench comprising Chief Justice P.D. Dinakaran and Justice Mohan Shantanagouder.

The petitioner, B. Krishna Bhat, had urged the BBMP to set apart an exclusive piece of land to bury animals.

He said though there are a large number of animals, including pets, in Bangalore, the BBMP has not made any provision for burying them.

When the matter came up on the previous occasion, the Bench had asked the BBMP advocate to file an affidavit.

With the BBMP saying that there already is a graveyard for animals, the Bench disposed off the petition.
