4 youths electrocuted

HYDERABAD: Four youths got electrocuted and two others sustained serious burns when an iron rod atop the vehicle in which they were taking the Ganesh idol for immersion came in contact with high tension wires at Mankhal village of Rangareddy district late on Thursday night. The incident occurred around 11.30 p.m. on the outskirts of Mankhal, 30 km from here, Ibrahimpatnam ACP A. Venkatratnam said confirming the incident.

The victims were identified as Madhu, Srinivas, A. Naresh and Marathi Naresh. All of them were below 30 years of age. The seriously injured, Rakesh and Srikanth, were rushed to a corporate hospital.

A group of six youngsters were trying to push a trolley, after its engine broke down, in which the generator set was being carried. The DCM van carrying the Ganesh idol was following the trolley. Electricity passed to the trolley when an iron rod in the van touched the electric wires above. Death was instant for all the four youths.
