Child rescued

Verification: A doctor checking the age of the children brought from the industrial units during a child labour eradication drive conducted by district administration in Tirupur. –
Tirupur: A child was rescued during intensive checks conducted by officials of labour and factories departments and Kovai CLASS here on Thursday.
Official sources told reporters here that Pandi (13), son of Muthu, was rescued from a stitching unit situated at Senkuntapuram on Mangalam road.
A case was registered against the firm for employing the child worker, under Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986.
Besides, the team headed by A. Kaliannan, Deputy Chief Inspector of Factories, levied penalty on a firm under Factories Act, 1948, after they found that the company had employed seven adolescents aged between 14 and 17 without obtaining fitness certificates for them from the authorities concerned.
Sources said that a total of 98 firms had been inspected in the day.
Of that, 88 were under textile sector, eight were catering units and the rest were groceries.
