Consumer societies in all mandals likely

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: Confederation of Andhra Pradesh Consumers’ Organisation (CAPCO) is making every effort to promote consumer societies by March 15 (World Consumers’ Day) in the mandals where the societies do not exist, according to CAPCO chairman V. Gowri Sankar Rao.

Speaking at an awareness camp on protection of consumers’ rights at Nehru Yuva Kendra here on Friday, Mr. Sankar Rao said that due to lack of awareness among people about the amended Consumer Rights’ Act, traders and service providers were exploiting them, despite existence of various provisions of laws protecting their interest.

He said a consumer could directly file case in the consumer court/forum by remitting nominal fee. B. Siva Murty, general secretary of CAPCO, P. Nagamani, district president and Chadalavada Prasad, State CAPCO member, were among others present.
