DAVANGERE: Ugrappa, leader of the Opposition in Legislative Council, visited the churches that activists of Hindu Jagarana Vedike had allegedly attacked and he also visited flood-affected and drought-hit areas in Davangere district on Thursday. Mr. Ugrappa commented on Davangere City Corporation action of seizing the churches and said he would pressurise Chief Minister B. S. Yeddyurappa to allow the normal functioning of the churches. He wondered as to how Davangere City Corporation had initiated action against churches without licences but had failed to do anything about unauthorised houses and business establishments. General Secretary of the Davangere District Congress Committee, D. Basavaraj and Jagalur MLA, S. V. Ramachandra accompanied him. They visited Jagalur taluk and expressed unhappiness over the “failure” of the Government in tackling the drought situation. He has asked the Deputy Commissioner of Davangere District to release funds under the Natural Calamity Relief Fund and provide water.
