Tepid romance: Aditi Sharma and Uday Kiran in ‘Gunde Jhallumandhi’ Film: Gunde Jhallumandhi Starcast: Uday Kiran, Aditi Sharma Direction: Madan Most of the theatres in Hyderabad had a houseful opening for this film as one expected writer Madan to re-create the magic of Pellaina Kotthalo. The film however, is a disappointment when compared to his previous film. Newcomer, the simple and plain Aditi Sharma, with her girl-next-door looks, manages to hold attention and gets equal footing in the film from hero Uday Kiran. Aditi Plays Neelima who thinks falling in love would be a stumbling block to her career and makes a conscious effort to stay away from men. But she chooses the wrong route by creating an illusory person Rajesh as her lover to spurn the guys in college. Sadly for her, this imaginary person turns up at her door creating trouble while Neelima takes the entire post-interval period in her control convincing her folks that there is no person or love in her life. So where does Uday Kiran figure in? The hero is a simpleton who comes from a village to the city to study, falls in love with Neelima but is hesitant to declare his feelings as he thinks Neelima is seeing Rajesh. Showing the family background of Balaraju and spinning a relationship between Rajesh and an erstwhile enemy Ajay who is from the village is slightly redundant. Madan uses strange words like ‘lovers association’, ‘tongue war’ throughout the film and makes the drama look juvenile. The pace of the film is slow and effort is made to remind the viewer of Uday Kiran’s first film Chitram by adding a dose of romance but that fails too. Technically, the camerawork impresses and the music is passable. Y. SUNITA CHOWDHARY
