Driver’s negligence costs life

Special Correspondent

KADAPA: Thirteen bodies-ten women and three children - were retrieved from the ill-fated private transport bus that ran off the Rapur-Chitvel ghat road on Thursday night and rested amidst thick bushes, about 50 ft deep in the valley. Thirty-two persons were injured, three of them seriously and are now being treated in the Chitvel Primary Health Centre.

``The bus driver consumed liquor at Rapur before proceeding further in the return journey to Railway Kodur and did not heed the plea of passengers that it was dangerous”, 14-year-old M. Divya said, narrating the sequence of events to Medical Education Minister G. Aruna Kumari. The Minister called on the injured persons at Chitvel PHC. Had the driver heeded the passengers and resisted from consuming alcohol, the journey would have been safe , the injured opined.

‘Shocked’

Special Correspondent from Hyderabad adds:Governor N. D. Tiwari has expressed grief and shock over the tourist bus tragedy on the Kadapa-Nellore border.
