HYDERABAD: Police in the State capital sounded a high alert as serial blasts rocked the country’s capital on Saturday, a day before the traditional Ganesh idol final procession here to be witnessed by lakhs of people. After convening emergency tele-conferences, the chiefs of Hyderabad and Cyberabad police instructed all their sub-ordinates to move onto the roads and continuously patrol the procession routes and places of public congregation. Already, the police were on stand-to orders for the past few days to oversee security arrangements for the Ganesh festival and were directed to make every effort to ensure the procession on Sunday passed off peacefully. Appealing to people not to panic over the explosions, police came out with a security advisory. “We don’t want to discourage people from witnessing and participating in the procession but suggest that everyone should be security conscious,” East Zone DCP T. Prabhakar Rao said. Keep watch on the movements of people around you and alert nearby policemen if any suspicious person is found carrying bags or boxes. VehiclesDon’t hesitate to intimate police if vehicles -- two or four-wheelers -- are abandoned at crowded places for long and any unclaimed objects like bags, briefcases and boxes are found. Note down telephone numbers of your local police and those of the main control rooms concerned before stepping out. Adequate securityWith watch towers and rooftop security posts all along the main and subsidiary procession routes, police said adequate security systems were in place. Over 30,000 policemen had been deployed across the city to meet any eventuality.
