World Alzheimer’s Day programmes

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Awareness programmes, get-togethers, seminars, discussions and a painting competition for school students will mark the observance of World Alzheimer’s day on September 21 in the capital.

These programmes are being organised by the Thiruvananthapuram chapter of the Alzheimer’s & Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI) on this day.

The local chapter of Alzheimer’s & Related Disorders Society of India will take up awareness programmes on September 20 and 21 in connection with the observance of the day on September 21.

This initiative is on the basis of the call given by United Nations.

It has been officially estimated that there are around 3.20 crore people in the country who have dementia (decline in the cognitive functioning of the brain).

On September 20, painting competition for students from the LKG to Plus two level will be held at Chaka Upper Primary School from 9 a.m.

Secretary of Alzheimer’s & Related Disorders Society of India, Robert Mathew said that the students will have to bring their own drawing materials and also bring a proof of identity along with them.

The World Alzheimer’s day will be celebrated in the ‘Snehasadan’ functioning under the Alzheimer’s & Related Disorders Society of India near Chakka. A get-together of the inmates of ‘Snehasadan’ will be held at 10.30 a.m.

The seminar and discussions, to be attended by palliative care workers, doctors and psychiatrists, will be at 3 p.m.
