BELLARY: For the second time in two months, the Tungabhadra reservoir in Hospet has overflowed due to good rainfall in catchment areas. All 33 gates of the dam were opened on Saturday up to a height of six inches, so that 25,500 cusecs of water could be released. The dam began overflowing from the second week of August and has continued so for over 20 days. The inflow on Saturday was 35,000 cusecs. Anticipating increased inflow, 25,500 cusecs of water was let out through the spillway, in addition to the release of 13,000 cusecs of water through canals on the left and right banks of the reservoir. — Staff Correspondent
