VHP seeks steps to check conversions

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: The Viswa Hindu Parishad (VHP) appealed to the Central and State Governments to check the ‘missionary zeal’ with which the Christians were converting Hindus into their community by material allurements. If urgent action is not taken to mitigate the atrocities being perpetrated by a section of the Christians, India would have few Hindus left, not to mention the ‘Hindu nationalistic rule’ for which the VHP had been striving for a long time.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, VHP national secretary Y. Raghavulu said Christian conversions gained substantial ground after Sonia Gandhi took over the reins of power at the Centre and Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy too was instrumental in promoting Christian missionary activities. Due to the increasing patronage of Christian organisations from some ‘geo-political forces’, the Hindu religion was facing unprecedented threat of being exterminated from its own land of origin.

The VHP’s demands are: strict implementation of the anti-conversion laws, checking the flow of foreign funds for propagation of Christianity, stopping preaching of Christianity by those coming to India on tourist or job visas and sanctioning of funds to Hindus for touring holy places like Amarnath. The VHP was equally critical of the UPA and NDA Governments for their failure to check communal conflagrations irrespective of who the perpetrators were, the VHP leader added.
