Cuddalore
CUDDALORE: The Cuddalore District Consumer Protection Organisation has appealed to the Collector and the Transport Department to take stringent action against those private bus operators on the Cuddalore-Puducherrry route who were collecting excess fare. In a statement released here on Friday, executive secretary of the forum M. Nizamudeen said that while the bus fare was fixed at Rs 6.50, some operators were collecting Rs 7. Moreover, they were issuing only a small chit without mentioning details such as the name of the service, bus number, etc. The bus operators deliberately avoided printing tickets in the approved format to escape from the law. The forum, therefore, urged the authorities to instruct the operators to collect only the prescribed fare and deposit the excess amount collected for over a month, either in the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund or in the consumer welfare fund.
