Two crest gates lifted to release 15,000 cusecs The gates were last opened in October 2000 SANGAREDDY: Thanks to good rainfall, after a gap of eight years, two crest gates of Singur reservoir were opened here on Saturday to release about 15,000 cusecs of water. Officials cautioned the people residing in low laying following the discharge of water from the project. This was due to heavy rain in the catchment area of the project in Karnataka as well as Andhra Pradesh, more particularly in Medak district. As much as 150 mm rainfall was recorded in Karnataka leading to flow of flood water into the reservoir. According to Sravan Kumar Reddy, Divisional Engineer of the Irrigation Department, while the full reservoir level of the project was 523.6 feet, i.e. 30 tmcft, the current water level at the project stood at 522.2 feet, i.e. 27.5 tmcft. Officials opened two of the 17 gates of the reservoir releasing 15,000 cusecs of water as the current inflow levels stood at 60,000 cusecs. Officials would be forced to open another two gates if the current inflow level continues for another day. The water being released from the project would reach Nizamsagar project through Manjeera project. APGENCO would release 3,000 cusecs of water to produce power in the Singur project under Unit 1. It was way back in October, 2000, the crest gates were opened to release water from the reservoir. Nizamabad Lift Irrigation Superintendent Engineer (Medak incharge Executive Engineer) Rajeswar Reddy, Deputy Chief Executive Engineer Punya Murthy visited the project.
