KORAPUT: Prabir Kumar Biswal, working in the school for deaf & dumb at Sunabeda in Koraput district has approached the State Human Rights Commission against the alleged harassment on him by local police. According to the complaint, Prabir has alleged that in February 2007 he was locked up in the police station at Sunabeda when he had gone to the station to lodge a complaint against one Santanu Kumar Das, working as a clerk in the DIG’s office and a neighbour in the colony. Even though he was the first to lodge a complaint in the station, the police, instead of taking action against Mr. Das who was harassing him from time to time, had instead put him behind the bars for the entire day. Further he has also alleged that he was not given any water or food in the cell. However he was released in the evening after taking a written undertaking from him, he alleged. With no justice in the police station, he had met Susanta Kumar Nath the then DIG, who had assured him protection from Mr. Das.
