‘Response to request for funds positive’

Staff Correspondent

BELLARY: G. Karunakar Reddy, Minister for Revenue, while stating that the response of Union Ministers Shivaraj Patil and Sharad Pawar to the State’s request for funds to tackle the flood situation was positive, said he was confident that they would be released soon.

Promise

He told presspersons here on Saturday that the two Union Ministers, in response to a memorandum submitted by him and other Ministers in the State, had promised to send two central teams to visit flood-affected areas in Karnataka and submit a report. They also sought a detailed report of the loss to public property, including roads and bridges, caused by heavy rain. This would be looked into for extending financial help, he added. Earlier, inaugurating the auditorium of the Bar Association, Mr. Reddy appealed to advocates to focus on early disposal of cases. He also felt the number of courts and judges should be increased as the population was also burgeoning.

List sought

He wanted the Bar Association to submit a list of infrastructural requirements at the court here and added that he would take up the matter with the Government.

G. Janardhan Reddy, Minister for Tourism, who was also present, said a master plan for the development of the district and the city was being prepared, and soon, the district would be made a model worth emulating.
