Stressful moments: Pilgrims stuck at the Sudarsanam counter at Alipiri on Sunday.

TIRUPATI: A large number of pilgrims were today stranded for more than four hours before the TTD’s Sudarsanam counter located at Alipiri, the foot of the hill with the computers in the centre reportedly going out of operation due to a snag.

Sources said that the counter which was to start issuing bar-coded computerized tokens to the pilgrims from 5 a.m. onwards, to help them get darshan in the temple of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala, remained closed till 10 a.m. with frantic efforts to restore the system meeting with no success.

Heated exchanges

Following the ‘hang up’ in the system, pilgrims including several women, aged and infirm got stranded in front of the counter with their baggage. The irate pilgrims got restive and were seen locked in heated exchanges with the duty staff reportedly amid heavy pushing and jostling.

Since it happened to be the week-end, with a holiday today being the ‘Second Saturday’, the pilgrim congregation was heavy at all the Sudarsanam counters located at important centres like Alipiri, APSRTC bus stand, Link bus station, ‘Srinivasam’ choultry Complex, II and III Choultries etc.
