‘All political parties stand to benefit if there are more sessions to discuss issues’ NEW DELHI: Conceding that the Delhi Assembly should have had more sittings, Speaker Prem Singh on Saturday said all political parties stand to benefit if there are more sessions to discuss and debate issues that concern the people. Addressing media persons a day after the three-day session of the Assembly concluded on Friday, Mr. Singh said the decision to hold sessions and their duration was taken by the Cabinet and it was not up to him to decide the number of sittings. OpportunityMore sittings would mean more opportunity to discuss issues and concerns of the people and that in turn would benefit the Government as well as the Opposition, he said. The Speaker said during the past five years, 110 sitting have been organised. Listing the details of the business transacted by the House over the past three days, he said three Bills were passed, presentation and adoption of seven committee reports was made and two short duration discussions took place. Mr. Singh said the Assembly secretariat received a total of 185 notices and 11 questions were asked with 43 supplementary questions. The members raised 27 matters, during the 14th session in the form of special mention and a private member resolution seeking medical facilities, travelling allowance and pension for former MLAs, former metropolitan councillors and their spouses was also passed. Referring to the Delhi Assembly as a “model Assembly”, Mr. Singh said he strove to work independently during his five year tenure.
