Clarinet concert of Vadavati enlivens the proceedings Several Ministers, MPs and top officials turn up
CHIEF GUEST: BJP leader L.K. Advani (right) arriving at the Vidhana Soudha for special lunch hosted by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Saturday. BANGALORE: Karnataka Government virtually floored the national BJP leaders, party Chief Ministers and guests alike with warm hospitality and delicious cuisine. South Indian delicacies, including Mysore Pak, which is known for its distinctive taste, flavour and culinary mix, were served to the guests at a special lunch hosted by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. The Chief Minister took personal interest in making his party colleagues feel at home at the Banquet Hall of the Vidhana Soudha on Saturday. It should be noted that the Chief Minister had personally invited most of the guests. Besides introducing his Cabinet colleagues to the party’s top leaders, Mr. Yeddyurappa himself was enquiring about the quality and taste of numerous delicacies. A large number of banquet tables with sheen and sparkle were laid giving the Banquet Hall a fresh and colourful look. Elaborate food counters, captains and bell maids in their smart uniforms added colour to the luncheon meet. The lunch programme was enlivened by a concert of international clarinettist Pandit Narasimhalu Vadavati of Bangalore. Among distinguished guests were BJP president Rajnath Singh, party’s prime ministerial candidate L.K. Advani, senior party leaders Murli Manohar Joshi, Jaswant Singh, M. Venkaiah Naidu, Arun Jaitely, Gopinath Munde, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister S.S. Chauhan and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh. Mr. Yeddyurappa had lunch and discussion on the same table. State BJP Ministers, MPs, Legislators, Chief Secretary Sudhakar Rao, top officials of various departments and senior media personnel attended the banquet. The menu spread included Mysore Pak, carrot halwa, jilebi, masala dosa, pani puri, bisi bele bath, curd rice, spicy mix of various vegetables and rice — a typical south Karnataka delicacy, Andhra, Mysore and north Karnataka delicacies. For the non-vegetarians there were delicacies of north and coastal Karnataka’s fish fry. Many of them had a taste of a wide range of rotis such as jolada roti and khadak roti. They were served with a variety of chutneys or spicy curries. Like every cuisine, south Indian cuisine has a wide range of desserts. Some popular sweet dishes such as holige were served for the special guests. Mr. Advani accompanied by Home Minister V.S. Acharya and Medical Education Minister Ramachadra Gowda arrived at the lunch venue on time. Minister for Social Welfare and Religious Endowment S.N. Krishnaiah Setty presented portraits of Lord Venkateshwara to Mr. Advani, Mr. Rajnath Singh, Dr. Joshi and other national leaders. D.K. Audikesavalu, MP, presented a shawl and a memento to Mr. Advani and other national leaders.
