Publicity-cum-awareness programme on various government schemes

PUDUKOTTAI: A five-day publicity cum awareness programme and exhibition on the various schemes being implemented by the Central and State governments in Tamil Nadu, will be organised here from September 25. Sponsored by the Press and Information Bureau, New Delhi, the programme called ‘Bharath Nirman public information campaign,’ seeks to create awareness among the masses about the norms on eligibility and benefits of these schemes.

The exhibition will comprise about 50 stalls to be set up by various departments, each depicting the objectives of the scheme being implemented by that department and the achievements registered by it so far in the state or national-levels, the Additional Director-General, PIB, K. Ganesan, said here on Friday.

Speaking at a consultative meeting held here for organising the campaign, Mr. Ganesan said that the exhibition would be a common platform, exposing the visitors simultaneously to both the Central and State government schemes.

Cultural programmes on the concept of the campaign would be held in 40 select villages in the district during the course of the programme. Banks, Postal Department, Insurance companies would exhibit their plans and programmes. A free health camp would be organised as part of the campaign and the visitors would be screened for minor ailments. A demonstration programme on disaster management would be another highlight of the campaign, in which the personnel from the Fire Service and Rescue department would sensitise the masses to First Aid techniques, application of presence of mind during a calamity or eventuality and also fire prevention techniques.

Seminars on agriculture and food production; women and child development; rural sanitation; rural development and youth welfare; education and industrial development would be held on these five days. Cultural programmes would be held to entertain the visitors, Mr. Ganesan added. The District Revenue Officer, R. Mahendravel and the Project Officer, District Rural Development Officer, K. Sumathy participated.
