PG medical seats may decrease in US

Special Correspondent

MANGALAGIRI (GUNTUR DT.): American Medical Association Executive Vice-President and CEO Michael D. Maves said a larger number of medical graduates are likely to pass out from Medical Schools in the US from next year, which could reduce the number of medical post-graduate seats available for the foreign students.

At the Medical Council of India platinum jubilee celebrations on the NRI Medical College and Hospital at Chinakakani near here, he gave presentation on the Accreditation Process of Postgraduate Medical Education in USA.

He said that there was a 2.3 per cent increase in the number of students applying for medicine seats in the US in 2007 taking it to 42,300.

The US government spends about 7 billion dollars annually on the US Medical Residency Education.
