Funding of schemes for northeast revised

Centre increases its share to 90 per cent

NEW DELHI: The Centre has decided to increase its share in the funding for various flagship programmes from 75 per cent to 90 per cent for the North-Eastern States.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved funding pattern here on Thursday.

Under the revised pattern, the Centre will contribute 90 per cent of the funds, while the States, including Sikkim, will contribute the remaining 10 per cent.

Pattern changed

The pattern has been changed for various Centrally-sponsored schemes of the Rural Development Ministry, including the Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY), the Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) and the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) administration.

At present, only the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) follows the 90:10 funding pattern for the northeastern States.

However, the government has also adopted this pattern for the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) and the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA).
