Sandisk’s 8 GB memory card for mobile phones (foreground) has been launched in India. The 32 GB Compact Flash for cameras is on the way.
BANGALORE: A mobile phone is more than a phone these days. You can take still or moving pictures; download songs; even store a small library of movies to while away the idle hours — as long as you are okay with a 3-inch screen! Which is why you need as much storage space as they can give you. SanDisk gives you up to 8 gigabytes which is enough for a thousand typical songs plus 1200 photos plus 21 hours of video recorded in MPEG-4. The Flash-based Mobile Ultra card in Micro SD or SDHC format, launched this week in India is also available in 2GB and 4GB sizes. They don’t come cheap: Rs. 6500, Rs. 5500 and Rs. 4500 for the three sizes. For photo enthusiasts and digital videographers, Sandisk has launched a 32 GB Compact Flash card which can record/store 80 minutes of high definition video at 100 megabytes per second. Priced at just under$ 300 internationally, the card should be available in India, later this year.
