Kollam in last eight

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Defending champion Kollam and runner-up Thiruvananthapuram moved into the men’s quarterfinals of the State senior handball championships at the Jimmy George indoor stadium here on Saturday.

Both Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram topped their respective groups by wining both their league matches. In the women’s section, Thiruvananthapuram crushed Kottayam 10-1 while Kozhikode edged out Malappuram 8-7.

The results (league): Men: Kannur bt Wayanad 20-2; Thiruvananthapuram bt Kasaragod 24-4; Kottayam bt Thrissur 28-11; Kollam bt Ernakulam 12-3; Thiruvananthapuarm bt Pathanamthitta 20-12; Kollam bt Palakkad 29-14.

Women: Thiruvananthapuram bt Kottayam 10-1; Kozhikode bt Malappuram 8-7. — Principal Correspondent

Selection trials

Trials to select the district women’s junior cricket team will be held at 8 a.m. on September 18 at the Jawahar Nagar Stadium, Kawdiar.

Interested players should report at venue on the day of the trails.
