Professional swimmers, policemen will be manning immersion points Life guards will be on duty from 8 a.m. till the last Ganesha idol is immersed HYDERABAD: Efforts are on in full swing by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) to ensure smooth conduct of Ganesh immersion procession on Sunday. With roads, especially along the procession route, getting battered in rain, municipal staff would be working overnight to repair potholes, to avoid delay of immersion procession. GHMC Commissioner S.P. Singh, who briefed media on arrangements, said that all possible efforts are being taken up on a war footing for a comfortable and safe immersion ceremony. Nearly 80 life guards or professional swimmers and policemen would be manning the immersion points along Necklace Road and N.T.R. Marg. At each crane, two lifeguards along with an inspector would be posted and for easy identification, the swimmers would sport arm bands and identity cards. The life guards would be on duty from 8 a.m. till the last Ganesha idol is immersed, Mr. Singh said. At nearly 20 places, along the procession route, medical camps with doctors, with adequate stock of life-saving drugs and one ambulance would be posted. Food and sanitary supervisors, sanitary jawans and health assistants, to prevent cases of water bone ailments; have also been posted at NTR Marg and Tank Bund Mr. Singh said that provision for basic amenities like drinking water and toilets are in place. “Importance is being given to chlorination and sanitation of water sources. Round-the-clock health camps would be held at few places for emergency needs,” he said. The GHMC Commissioner informed that high-powered lights have been fitted along the procession path. “Lights would help maintain law and order and make life easy for everyone,” Mr. Singh said.
