Smooth passage: The Trumpet Interchange constructed as part of P.V.N.R. Expressway at Shamshabad Airport to facilitate free flow of traffic.
HYDERABAD: A Trumpet Interchange that promises to remove conflicts in traffic movement to the international airport will be inaugurated here on Monday. With loops connecting four directions, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) project is located at the stretch to airport that joins the National Highway 7 at Shamshabad. The first project of HMDA, which was constituted last month, the interchange avoids a new junction on the road consequently slowing down the airport bound traffic. Apart from the city, it has one of the loops connecting to the road leading towards Bangalore on the highway. The trumpet elevated portion is a four-lane divided carriageway and ensures that all traffic from and to the airport from the NH-7 flows with a free left and avoid conflicts resulting from the need of a right turn, explains HMDA Chief Engineer Vivek Deshmukh. Constructed at Rs.20 crore, the interchange has a bridge portion across the highway and loops land in four sides. Four loopsThe main carriageway length is 670 metres and the first loop with a length of 480 metres facilitates traffic movement from airport to Bangalore. The 570-metre second loop serves the traffic from the city without having to use the bridge while the last two loops, measuring 673 metres and 697 metres, rely on the bridge for those coming from Bangalore side and from the city respectively. The minimum width of the loops is 7.5 metres. “Trumpet Interchange is part of the P.V. Elevated Expressway and we have completed it in a year’s time after clearance from National Highways Authority of India,” Mr. Deshmukh said. The work on an underpass to facilitate free traffic movement at Aramgarh too was almost completed.
