Worker dies in manhole

HYDERABAD: A labourer, Mareppa, 40, died after reportedly inhaling poisonous gases when he entered a manhole to clean a drainage line near City College on High Court road in old city on Saturday. The victim hails from Kalvakurthy of Mahabubnagar district and used to live at Uppuguda in the old city.

He was hired to clean the drainage. After removing the manhole cover, normally labourers would wait for some time so that poisonous gases would go out. “The labourer entered the manhole immediately taking out the manhole lid and died after inhaling the harmful gases inside,” the police said.

In another incident, a four-year-old Arsalan Khan, got washed away in a ‘nala’ after accidentally slipping into it near Yakutpura railway station on Friday night.
