CHENNAI: Here is a wish-list for India in 2025. At least 10 Nobel laureates must be from India. Agriculture should have witnessed a renewal. Thirty of the Fortune 100 firms should be from India. Such a nine-point vision of India after 75 years of Independence will be given to the Prime Minister on January 26 by the president of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), said Gopal Srinivasan, Immediate Past Chairman, CII, Tamil Nadu.

Mr. Srinivasan was speaking at a panel discussion on ‘India @ 75: Vision for Tamil Nadu’, at the valedictory function of Connect 2008, organised by CII in association with Government of Tamil Nadu, here on Saturday.

The panel included B. Ramalinga Raju, Founder and Chairman, Satyam Computer Services; K. Ashok Vardhan Shetty, Principal Secretary, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Development; Andrew T. Simkin, Consul General, Consulate of United States of America, Chennai; G.R.K. Reddy, Chairman, CII, Chennai Zone; M.F. Farooqui, Principal Secretary, Department of Industries; Narayanan Ramaswamy, Executive Director-Advisory Services, KPMG Advisory Services; P.R. Ramasubrahmaneya Rajha, Chairman and Managing Director, Madras Cements; C. Chandramouli, IT Secretary; and Manikam Ramaswami, Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu.

Connect 2001 had set the agenda for a township for the IT industry, and, in response, the government worked on developing the IT corridor on Old Mahabalipuram Road, said Mr. Srinivasan. Similarly, the agenda of Connect 2008 was the establishment of an Aeropark. But, the agenda needed to go beyond the Aeropark, he said.

The panel then discussed with the audience on various issues, including education and inclusive growth.
