BANGALORE: Condemning the bomb blasts in Delhi, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader L. K. Advani on Saturday maintained that the United Progressive Alliance government had failed to act, though Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi had tipped-off Prime Minister Manmohan Singh recently that there were plans by the terrorists to target Delhi.

Launching the Vijay Sankalp rally organised by the party in Bangalore to seek a comprehensive mandate for the party in the Lok Sabha polls, Mr. Advani said the Gujarat government had come to know about the plans by the terrorists to attack Delhi when its police were interrogating some of those arrested in connection with the blasts in the State. “Mr. Modi personally met the Prime Minister in Delhi about 10 days ago and passed on this crucial information.”

He alleged that the soft policy of the UPA towards terrorists was the main reason for the growth of terrorism in the country, while BJP president Rajnath Singh assured people that if voted to power, the NDA would eradicate the menace of terrorism from the country.

Accusing the UPA government of failing in all fronts, Mr. Advani challenged Dr. Manmohan Singh to dissolve the Lok Sabha and seek fresh mandate.

Mr. Advani demanded that the government should seek evaluation of its performance by people through fresh mandate.

“This is my challenge to the Prime Minister and Congress president Sonia Gandhi. I would like people of India to give their verdict on the performance of Sonia-Manmohan Singh Government. Let the people compare the performance of the UPA government with that of the NDA led by the BJP,” he said.

Mr. Advani described Dr. Singh as the “weakest” Prime Minister the country had ever seen and the UPA government as the “useless” government. All the earlier Prime Ministers of the country had some or other achievements to their credit. But Dr. Singh was the only Prime Minister who had no achievement to speak of, he said.

“People are eager to relieve themselves of this government. The government has failed to handle internal security, agricultural crisis and price rise. The latest bomb blasts in Delhi is one more example the failure of the government to handle the security issue,” he said.

He said the government had failed even in integrity and public probity aspects. “Why wait till some more time for the Lok Sabha election?. Let them go before the people now itself if they are confident that they have performed well.”
