HASSAN: Twelve members of a family from Whitefield near Bangalore were robbed at knife-point on Sunday near the Gundya checkpost on Shiradi Ghat in Sakleshpur taluk. They were returning to Bangalore after visiting Dharmasthala. While on their way, a jeep overtook them and stopped in front of their vehicle. Five persons armed with knives entered their vehicle, assaulted the pilgrims and took away gold ornaments worth Rs. 10 lakh and Rs. 20,000 in cash from them. Inspector-General of Police, Southern Range, Jeevan Kumar Gaonkar visited the scene of crime. The police said that the robbery took place at 2 a.m. on Sunday. He said that when some of the travellers resisted, the dacoits attacked them with knives. Six of them sustained injuries. The police said their driver Lokesh brought the injured to the Government Hospital in Sakleshpur for treatment. All police stations in Hassan district have been alerted.
