Procession peaceful

SHIMOGA: The immersion procession of the Ganesha idol of the Hindu Sanghatana Mahamandali passed off peacefully here on Sunday amid tight police security as the district administration did not want to take chances.

About ten thousand people participated. Mallikarjuna Murugharajendra Swamiji of Bekkinkalmutt and Prasanna Natha Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Mutt offered pooja.

Cultural programmes were held. Minister for Energy, K.S. Eshwarappa participated. The idol was immersed in the Tunga.
