‘Show more interest’

Sir, — The Mangalore City Corporation has taken up concreting and four-laning at various stretches in the city such as from Hampankatta signal junction up to A.B. Shetty Circle; from Hotel Sujatha through K.S. Rao Roadup to Jyothi Circle and from Balmatta Circle to Mangalore Nursing Home. Such development works are important. But taking up all the works simultaneously is not advisable. The work on the K.S. Rao Road will be completed in two months. But the work on the stretch from Hampanakatta junction up to A.B. Shetty Circle is going on at a snail’s pace. District in-charge Minister Krishna J. Palemar is showing interest in ensuring the work completed in time on the K.S. Rao Road stretch. Mr. Palemar should take similar interest in other works and see that they are completed in the stipulated time. This will spare the public from being inconvenienced.

Shifting of Racecourse

Sir, — Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has stated that the Government proposes to shift the racecourse in Bangalore to the outskirts of the city. Land sharks have been eyeing this prime location for over two decades. The Racecourse provides a lung space in the heart of Bangalore. In a city which is already highly polluted, shifting the racecourse will be the last straw. Residents of Bangalore should protest against this move.

‘Forgive perpetrators’

Sir, — The recent attacks on Christians in Orissa has left the country in a state of shock. Christians across the country have been protesting against the violence. In 1999, Gladys Staines remained calm and composed even after her husband and two children were burnt alive. She said that her family’s killers should be forgiven. It was an echo of Christ’s prayer amidst his agony on the Cross. The Bangalore Initiative for Religious Dialogue (BIRD) appeals to the Christian community to end all protests and forgive the perpetrators of violence in Orissa.
