Bangalore: The former Prime Minister and national president of the Janata Dal (Secular), H.D. Deve Gowda, has urged the Union government to convene an emergency session of Parliament in the light of the serial bomb blasts in the capital. He said Parliament should be summoned to “discuss the aggression on the nation and evolve a political consensus to put up a unified resistance against the forces of communalism and terrorism which are feeding each other and threatening to tear apart the nation’s fragile secular social fabric. The inhuman and barbaric attack on innocent people is an act of cowardice which should be condemned in the strongest possible terms.” Mr. Gowda said though this was not the time to engage in blame game, the impunity with which the terrorists were carrying out their mission across the country was a clear indication that the incumbent government was unable to safeguard even the constitutional right to life of its citizens. “The UPA government seems to be too preoccupied with the pursuit of its own agenda and has no time to spare for issues such as national security and integrity.”
