Move for more financial autonomy

Staff Reporter

ALAPPUZHA: Finance Ministers from all States will submit a memorandum to Finance Commission Chairman Vijay Kelkar and other members of the Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The unified effort is aimed at revamping Centre-State relations and ensuring greater financial autonomy for States.

Kerala Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac said here on Monday that the last three Finance Commission awards had destabilised Centre-State relations and strengthened the trend of imposing policy-related restrictions on States.

A national seminar at Thiruvananthapuram in May had paved the way for the united approach by States, he added.
