ISLAMABAD: Pakistan says India has blocked the Chenab waters from flowing across to its side, endangering its kharif crop as a result. Water and Power Secretary Ismail Qureshi told Geo television that the matter had already been taken up with New Delhi through the Indian High Commission, and the government was expecting a response in a couple of days. The water shortage as a result of India’s alleged blockade could adversely affect kharif crops, especially cotton and sugarcane, which were due for a final watering, Dawn newspaper said on Monday. It would also affect the sowing of the wheat crop in the upcoming rabi season. Quoting sources, the newspaper said, Pakistan used to receive more than 23,000 cusecs of water until last week, but it was now down to “almost zero.”
