Gokarna temple belongs to all: Pejawar seer

Correspondent

SIRSI: Vishwesha Tirtha Swamiji of Pejawar Math, Udupi, has said that the Mahabaleshwara temple in Gokarna belongs to all. Religious harmony should be maintained in Gokarna as the temple is a symbol of “Hindu samja”, he has said.

The seer was speaking at a meeting held at Sonda Swarnavalli Math on Monday to discuss the relevance of transfer of administration of the temple to Sri Ramachandrapura Math, Hosnagar.

Uttara Kannada district in-charge Minister Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri said that there was a need to develop the temple. Discontent regarding the transfer of administration of the temple to the math would be conveyed to the Chief Minister, he said.

Advocate Arunachal Hegde, Balchandra Shastri, A.K. Shastri and Sachidanad Hegde spoke on the occasion.

In his introductory speech, Gangadharendra Saraswathi of Swarnavalli Math said that differences regarding the transfer of administration of the temple should be solved amicably. Prasannanath Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Math, Satya Shankar of Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri, and president of the Kota Samaj K.S. Karanath also spoke on the occasion.

‘Maha sankalpa’

Speaking at the “Gokarna Kshetra Punaruthana Maha Sankalpa” meeting at Gokarna on Monday, Raghaveshwara Bharati Swamiji of Sri Ramachandrapura Math said that Gokarna would be developed only as a pilgrim centre. There would be no change in the puja system being followed at the temple, he said.

The former judge of the Supreme Court Shivraj Patil presided over the meeting.
