PATHANAMTHITTA: The Ayyappa Temple at Sabarimala opened on Tuesday afternoon for the monthly puja in the Malayalam month of Kanni that begins on Wednesday. The rituals will begin with Tantri Kandararu Rajeevaru, assisted by Melsanthi T.K. Krishnan Namboodiri, performing Ashtadravya Ganapati Homam on Wednesday morning. The auspicious Laksharchana, Sahasrakalasabhishekom and Kalabhabhishekom will be performed at the temple on Wednesday. Other ritualsAnother Sahasrakalasabhishekom will be performed at the Ayyappa Temple on September 21 and a Kalabhabhishekom on September 20, according to the Tantri. The temple will be closed after the Athazhapuja on September 21 evening, marking the culmination of the five-day monthly rituals. Padipuja, Udayasthamanapuja and Pushpabhishekom will be other special rituals to be held on all the five days. Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation R. Madhavan Nair and P.K. Sumathykutty Amma, Travancore Devawom Board Member, were among those who were camping at Sabarimala to offer prayers at the Ayyapa Temple on the first day of the Malayalam month of Kanni.
