Doctors from Coimbatore bag awards

COIMBATORE: Three surgeons of Gem Hospital here won awards for their presentations on laparoscopy surgery at the recent 11th World Congress of Endoscopic Surgery in Japan.
A press release from the hospital has said that a team of four surgeons, led by the hospital Director C. Palanivelu, made presentations on 19 surgeries that they had performed here.
This team was among 3,000 surgeons from 74 countries who attended the congress.
The congress conferred the Young Investigator Award on P. Senthilnathan for his work on “Laparoscopic Excision of Choledocal Cyst and Hepatico-jejunostomy” and on R. Parthasarathi for his work on the removal of appendix through natural orifices with the endoscopy method.
P.S. Rajan bagged the best poster presentation award for his work on the removal of gall bladder through natural orifices.
Presentations on Dr. Palanivelu’s surgeries such as the Whipple’s procedure and the removal of cancer-affected food pipe were also made.
