CHENNAI: The present combined storage of 3.6 thousand million cubic feet in the four city reservoirs is sufficient to meet the city’s water requirement till January 2009.
With the water to be realised from the Kandaleru reservoir, it will be adequate till December 2009, Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin said on Wednesday.
He was briefing presspersons, along with Public Works Minister Durai Murugan, in Poondi, Tiruvallur district after reviewing the Kandaleru-Poondi (KP) canal repair work.
Krishna water meant for the city from the Kandaleru reservoir in Andhra Pradesh was released around 11 a.m. on Wednesday.
It was expected to reach the inter-State border at Uthukottai in two or three days. There was enough storage in the reservoir. Andhra Pradesh was prepared to give water as per Tamil Nadu’s requirement.
On Wednesday, about 400 cubic feet per second of water was discharged from the Kandaleru reservoir.
