KOZHIKODE: A cultural museum being set up by the Koyilandy Municipality will be opened to the public after work on the four-storey building is completed, said K. Dasan, Municipality chairman. The artefacts to be showcased here have already been collected. “The idea was basically mooted with a view to preserving at least to some extent the implements and items that were in use in agriculture, in everyday life and for staging of art forms. It is part of preserving for posterity, the items that once were part of the culture and tradition of the area, and would be of great curiosity to the younger generation,” Mr. Dasan said. The museum is being set up with the assistance of the Centre for Heritage Studies, Hill Palace Museum, Tripunithura. K.K.N. Kurup, historian and director of the Centre for Heritage Studies who is also the chairman of the Cultural Museum committee, said: “This is the first time that a municipality is coming up with such a novel idea, maybe even in the country.” Dr. Kurup, along with P.K. Gopi, Director in-charge of the Hill Museum, will provide the technical knowhow to the municipality.
