KANNUR: Minister of State for External Affairs and newly elected all-India president of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) E. Ahamed has condemned attacks on places of worship in Karnataka. Quoting from a reported observation made by Shafi Quraishi, chairman of the National Commission for Minorities, Mr. Ahmed said here on Wednesday that the Karnataka government was not taking satisfactory action to check violence against the minority communities. When contacted, the Minister told The Hindu that it was a cardinal duty of the governments to protect the rights of the minority communities in the country as enshrined in the Constitution. The Minister was on his first visit to his home town after his election as president of the IUML. Earlier, he was received by party workers at the railway station here.
