Infrastructure meet tomorrow

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State government and the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC), in association with the Cochin Port Trust, will organise a conference on ‘Infrastructure development – driver for growth,’ at Taj Malabar, Kochi on September 19.

The conference is being organised as part of the ongoing initiatives of the government to attract investment and industry, a press release issued here on Wednesday said.

The conference will analyse the intricacies of infrastructure development and its professional management in the State.

K.M. Chandrasekhar, Cabinet Secretary, Government of India, will deliver the inaugural address. State Chief Secretary P.J. Thomas will preside.

Industries and Commerce Principal Secretary T. Balakrishnan, Cochin Port Trust Chairman N. Ramachandran and KSIDC Managing Director Manoj Joshi will address the gathering.

The meet is expected to be attended by key players in the infrastructure industry.

As structuring of projects in a professional manner is cardinal to attracting private investments in infrastructure, the session on ‘Structuring of infrastructure projects’ will focus on issues that are important in making infrastructure projects viable, the release said.

Expectations on the revenue generating streams and viability of long-term finance options, among other things, are the other key areas to be discussed.

Those expected to address the conference include: D.K. Mittal, managing director, IL&FS IDC; H.K. Dash, Principal Secretary (Ports), Government of Gujarat; Amitabh Kant, Principal Secretary (Industries), Government of Kerala and Govind Mohan, Director (Infra) Directorate of Economic Affairs, Government of India.

There will also be a sessions on infrastructure financing.

A. Didar Singh, Finance Member, National Highways Authority of India; Parvez Umrigar, managing director, Gamon Infrastructure Ltd.; and Sanjay Divakar Joshi, director, Lanco Infra; will share their view and experiences.
