VISAKHAPATNAM: The need for electing local people who understand local issues and make sincere efforts to solve them was stressed by president and honorary advisor of the Praja Spandana C.S. Rao and E.A.S. Sarma respectively. Addressing newsmen, they said that local politics was being hijacked by some leaders who stay away from the city for long durations and make all sorts of promises during election campaign. Those who were denied party ticket at other places were given the same here, they said. Praja Spandana, a forum for common cause and protection and promotion of public interests, had been fighting on various issues concerning city, like formation of a separate railway zone with headquarters at Visakhapatnam, setting up of central university, control of pollution, rehabilitation of evacuees etc. Railway zoneThey demanded formation of a separate railway zone which should extend from Berhampur to Vijayawada.
