RAMANATHAPURAM: The body of M. Jayaraman (70), who was murdered by a group of villagers of Veerambal on Tuesday, was cremated at Ilanchembur near Mudukulathur amid tight security on Wednesday. When the body was taken from Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai where he died to Ilanchembur, a mob blocked the ambulance at Mudukulathur. They demanded the release of 11 persons secured by the police at Madurai for picketing buses demanding the immediate arrest of accused involved in Jayaraman’s murder. They also demanded compensation to his family. Superintendents of Police K.A. Senthil Velan (Ramanathapuram) and N. Kannan (Sivaganga) and revenue officials pacified the agitators assuring that necessary action would be taken on their demand.
