By-elections held in two wards

Krishnagiri: Local body by-elections were held in two wards in Krishnagiri district today. In Burgur Town Panchayat, where election was held in ward 12, the contest was between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the AIADMK nominee.
In Pochampally Rural Panchayat ward 4, the bypoll was held on a non-party basis.
In Burgur, the bypoll was necessitated following the death of the sitting ward member P.K. Ranganathan and in Pochampally, since the member G. Sakthivel got employment in Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation as driver.
In Burgur, there was direct fight between Mr. R. Elangovan (DMK) and G. Venkatesan (AIADMK).
On an average, 75 per cent voter turnout was registered in both the wards.
In Burgur, out of 744 votes, 579 were polled and in Pochampally, out of 790 votes, 595 votes were polled, said Sekar, PA to the District Collector.
