YSR to inaugurate Kakatiya Thermal Power Station in 2009

Project will solve low voltage problem, enable free power to the farmers, industrial growth

BHUPALPALLI (WARANGAL DT.): Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah said the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy would inaugurate the prestigious 500 MW Kakatiya Thermal Power Station in February next year and lay foundation for the second phase of works as well.

The Minister visited the ongoing project at Chelpur near Bhupalpalli here on Thursday.

He said the second phase of the project 600 MW would be taken up with an outlay of Rs. 2,900 crore.

Dissatisfaction

The Minister was apprised by the APGenco officials that the project would be in place by April 2009 for operations. Expressing dissatisfaction at the slow pace of works, the Minister instructed the officials to complete it by February and also obtain all the necessary permissions within two months for the second phase of the project.

The Minister said the project required 25 cusecs of water everyday and it would be made available by laying a 62 kilometre pipeline from Godavari in Kaleswaram.

The project required 7,000 tonnes of coal which would be supplied from Singareni coal mines in Bhupalpalli.

Free power

The first phase of the project was taken up with a cost of Rs. 2,077 crore and the foundation was laid by the Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on June 1, 2006.

Mr. Lakshmaiah said once the project is in place would solve low voltage problem, enable supply free power to the farmers and augment industrial growth in the region.

Drinking water

He said the four villages with approximate population of 10,000 would be supplied safe drinking water besides developing the Chelpur village with internal roads and lighting. According to the minister, a total of 973 acres of land was acquired for the project. The compensation for farmers in 75 acres is yet to be paid. He said the state government promised to provide one job to each of the 700 families whose land was acquired for the project.

He directed the APGenco officials to implement the promises without fail.

Mulug MLA Podem Veeraiah, AP Genco director (technical) Krishnamurthy and other officials were present.
