dated September 19, 1958: Indians in S Africa

The United Nations General Assembly’s Steering Committee on September 17 decided to recommend to the Assembly to put on its agenda the question of Algeria. The committee also decided to inscribe two items proposed by India and Pakistan on the treatment of people of Indian origin in the Union and another item proposed by 11 nations on “the question of race conflict in South Africa resulting from the policies of apartheid of the Government of the Union of South Africa”. The Steering Committee was discussing the agenda for the 13th ordinary General Assembly which opened in United Nations on September 16.
