dated September 19, 1958: Jet plane

The new British Comet jet airliner flew from Britain to Newfoundland during the night in five hours 47 minutes, it was announced on September 17. The plane, which earlier in the week had flown from Hong Kong to London in a day, left Hatfield airfield, near London, for Canada on its last proving flight before being put into service by the British Overseas Airways Corporation.
