Anti-terror laws

This refers to the Prime Minister’s address on strengthening anti-terror laws (September 18). But that alone is not sufficient. Investigation should be strengthened and efforts made to zero in on the main terrorist centres and ban all training schools of terrorism. .

Jose Vallanattu,

Thiruvananthapuram

Howsoever tough the laws, implementation and eternal vigilance alone will ensure success for anti-terror operations. The need for tough law cannot be minimised. Would all those who claim that the existence of the Prevention of Terrorism Act and the TADA Act did not prevent terrorist operations advocate the abolition of the Criminal Procedure Code as its existence has not prevented various crimes?

C.V. Subbaraman,

Ahmedabad

It looks as if the UPA government is in the grip of a serious disciplinary meltdown. What astounds me is the indecent free-for-all against Home Minister Shivraj Patil who has been mercilessly singled out, even by some of his Cabinet colleagues, for failure on the terrorism front which needs to be addressed collectively. Backstage rivalries are now in the open, causing a dangerous disarray in the government.

Anam Fehmi Husain,

Aligarh
