Letters to the Editor
This refers to the article, “Mortgaging nuclear crown jewels” (September 17) and the news item, “Repudiate 123 Agreement : CPI(M)” (September 18). Mr. Brahma Chellaney’s view that India will be the loser in the event of the agreement being signed is well-founded. The article gives rise to the legitimate doubt whether New Delhi is dancing to the tunes of Washington. While considering the nuclear deal, the UPA government should ask itself one basic question: would it benefit the nation? P. Siva Chinnathambi, Chennai In spite of the warning given by the Left parties and many experts in the field of nuclear energy, the government is going ahead, it seems, to finalise the deal according to the terms and conditions prescribed by the U.S. The future of the billion plus people of this country is at stake and it is hoped those at the helm of affairs will see through the devious ploys employed by the U.S. in getting us into their orbit.M.S. Jose, Hubli
